304 stainless steel sheet blanks are the world's most widely used stainless steel grade, accounting for roughly half of all stainless steel produced globally. The 18% chromium and 8% nickel composition creates a stable austenitic structure that resists corrosion in a wide range of atmospheric, chemical, and food-contact environments while maintaining excellent formability and weldability. This combination of properties explains why 304 appears in everything from restaurant kitchen walls to pharmaceutical mixing vessels. The austenitic structure of 304 gives it exceptional ductility and formability. With 40% elongation at break, 304 sheet can be bent, drawn, and spun into complex shapes without cracking. This makes it the preferred material for formed enclosures, sinks, countertops, and decorative architectural elements. The material work-hardens significantly during forming, which increases strength in the finished part but requires awareness of spring-back in brake-formed bends. 304 stainless sheet is available in several surface finishes that affect both appearance and performance. The standard 2B mill finish provides a smooth, moderately reflective surface suitable for most applications. No. 4 brushed finish adds a directional grain pattern preferred for architectural and kitchen applications. Mirror-polished No. 8 finish is available for decorative and sanitary applications. Each finish can be passivated after fabrication to maximize corrosion performance. Welding 304 sheet requires attention to heat input to minimize carbide precipitation and distortion. TIG welding with 308L filler wire is the standard process for sheet gauges, producing clean, corrosion-resistant joints. Our 304 stainless sheet blanks are sheared from certified 2B mill finish coil stock in standard gauges from 22 gauge through 3/16 inch.
