C122 DHP Copper Sheet Blanks

C122 DHP (Deoxidized High Phosphorus) copper sheet blanks are the standard copper grade for plumbing, HVAC, and any application involving brazing or soldering in assembly. The defining characteristic of C122 is its phosphorus content of 0.015-0.040%, which serves as a deoxidizer during melting and remains in the finished product as a residual element that dramatically improves brazeability. This phosphorus content allows C122 to be brazed with copper-phosphorus (BCuP) filler alloys without the need for flux. The deoxidized composition means C122 is free of the cuprous oxide network present in C110 ETP copper. When ETP copper is heated above approximately 750°F in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere, hydrogen diffuses into the copper and reacts with the internal oxide particles, causing intergranular cracking known as hydrogen embrittlement. C122 eliminates this failure mode entirely, making it the safe choice for any application where the copper will be exposed to high temperatures during brazing, welding, or service. The trade-off for phosphorus deoxidation is a reduction in electrical conductivity. C122 achieves approximately 85% IACS compared to the 101% IACS of C110 and C101. For electrical busbar and high-conductivity applications, C110 is the better choice. For plumbing, HVAC, architectural, and general fabrication applications where conductivity is not critical, C122 provides superior brazeability and processing reliability.
