C101 OFE (Oxygen-Free Electronic) copper sheet blanks represent the highest commercially available purity grade of copper, refined to 99.99% minimum copper content with oxygen levels below 0.0005%. This extreme purity eliminates the risk of hydrogen embrittlement during brazing and high-temperature processing, and minimizes outgassing in vacuum environments, making C101 the mandatory material for particle accelerator components, electron tubes, vacuum feedthroughs, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
The electrical conductivity of 101% IACS is nominally identical to C110 ETP copper, but the absence of cuprous oxide inclusions gives C101 superior performance in several critical areas: more consistent conductivity at cryogenic temperatures, lower outgassing rates under vacuum, and freedom from the embrittlement that occurs when ETP copper is heated above 750°F in hydrogen-containing atmospheres.
Vacuum and high-energy physics applications drive most C101 demand. Particle accelerator cavities, RF waveguide components, and electron gun assemblies require copper that will not release gas molecules under hard vacuum. The semiconductor industry specifies C101 for sputtering targets and gas delivery system components where trace oxygen would contaminate processes.
The mechanical properties of C101 sheet are essentially identical to C110 at equivalent tempers. Half-hard temper provides a practical balance of strength and formability. C101 solders, brazes, and welds using the same techniques as other pure coppers, with the critical advantage that brazing in hydrogen atmospheres will not cause embrittlement. Our C101 sheet blanks ship with protective interleaving from certified oxygen-free mill stock in thicknesses from 0.020 inches through 1/4 inch.
